About Boring Mattress
Boring makes functional and affordable products, emphasizing quality materials and superior performance. Started by the founding team behind Tuft & Needle, our mission is simple: make buying quality, thoughtfully-designed products easy and affordable for everyone. We offer real human support, generous customer policies, and warranties that back up what we make.
Position Overview
On the Product Team at Boring, you’ll help bring new product ideas to life, from concept through development, while keeping current projects on track. You’ll work directly with our suppliers, help manage projects in flight, and help ensure our products meet the quality and design standards our customers expect. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to learn how a direct-to-consumer brand builds and launches products.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and track ongoing product development projects, ensuring milestones are met and stakeholders are informed
- Communicate directly with suppliers to gather quotes, review samples, and coordinate production timelines
- Research materials, components, and manufacturing options for new product concepts
- Maintain organized documentation of product specs, supplier communications, and project status in our project management tools
- Review product samples and packaging with an eye for design quality and brand consistency
- Identify potential issues early and come to the team with proposed solutions, not just problems
- Support the team with ad-hoc research, competitive analysis, and product ideation
What We’re Looking For
Required
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Business, Supply Chain, Product Design, or related field
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You’ll be the point of contact with suppliers
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Quick to respond and reliable. When something needs attention, you’re on it
- Self-starter mentality: you take initiative, anticipate next steps, and propose solutions rather than waiting to be told what to do
- An eye for design and aesthetics. You can tell when something looks right (or doesn’t)
What You’ll Gain
- Real ownership of projects with direct impact on products that ship to customers
- Exposure to end-to-end product development at a growing DTC brand
- Hands-on experience with supplier discussions and manufacturing processes
- Mentorship from founders with deep industry experience
- Potential path to full-time employment based on performance
Work Environment
This is a hybrid part-time role averaging 8–10 hours per week. We believe product work requires regular customer contact, so each team member, including this role, spends 2-4 hours weekly in our Tempe showroom engaging with customers and gathering feedback.
